Towing a 56 BN 2

Is it ok to tow a 56 BN 2 with a tow bar without disconnecting the driveshaft etc.? Maybe tow for about 1200 miles.

Hi Grey Cat, based upon all I have read over many years the answer to your question is NO!. There is the possibility of causing significant damage to the transmission.--Fwiw--Keoke

+1 on flat towing; too easy to unbolt the driveshaft from the rear axle, just reach down through the battery box and you don't even have to get under the car.

If this is a recon mission (as opposed to towing an already road-worthy car), be certain that the wheels, tires, hubs, knock-offs, bearings and suspension are up to the task.

Frankly, if I HAD to tow it that far, I'd get all four (4) wheels off the ground and onto a trailer. There'd be A LOT less stress involved, for both you and the car.

I have a 56 and would not consider towing any other way but on a flat bed or in the alternative a motorcycle trailer. We have a 7'X14' Haulmark that we use for Agatha. So, if you have a biker friend who has a trailer it might well be that it will work for you. We have approximately 2' front and back and can open both doors with approximately 1.5' on either side. Indeed we purchased the trailer for our Healey. Hubby has outfited it with a small generator, compressor, various tools, etc. I put my foot down when he wanted to put in a small fridge/microwave. Enough is enough.

Maybe so, I flat towed one a long way with everything connected, didn't hurt a thing. In fact, the OD oil pump is operated by the rear shaft & likely stirs the lube up a bit. It's just one of those topics that seems to polarize folks a bit.
