Towing 62BT7 with Drive Shaft Connected

Am about to take myBT7 on the road for first time in years. If I breakdown I will call my wife to drive my pickup which has towbar in back for assist.I am told to not tow the car with driveshaft connected or damage to overdrive will occur. Would appreciate learning what the technical issue is with towing in this config. Does this apply to short distance towing - say 20 miles ?????

Hi Hondo,
You may get different opinions from different folks.
My personal experience is that the Healey can be towed a long distance. at least 1,000 miles, with the drive shaft connected. No damage to anything.

The OD oil pump is actually driven from the transmission output shaft & is pumping anytime the car is rolling. This appears to provide enough lubrication to protect everything.

If you are the worrying type, you could stop every two hundred miles, start the engine, & let the transmissiom run in neutral for a bit to relube the other parts.

Thanks. I don't plan on an extended tow. If she craps out, I could call AAA or a buddy with a trailer or my wife who could say " I told you so !!!". Plenty of options.

I did it some years ago with no problems.
Be sure the tow bar hooks up to the frame and not the bumper.
