battery placement

I'm putting the 100-4 back together at new paint stage. The battery has been in the original space behind the seats. The 12 volt unit has never been very practical. Might have to go to the trunk but I want to explore moving it to a place under the bonnet. Anyone had any experience with a battery that has a long thin profile that would fit a custom shaped rack under the shroud and along side the engine?

What's wrong with it behind the seats? Mine has been there forever and not had a problem. BN7.

Maybe I am missing something but I successfully fit single 12 volt batts in both the BN1 and the BN7 with only a minimal amount of adapting the stock mounting trays and hardware.

I don't like the concept of mounting a battery in the engine compartment: It will be difficult to access to inspect, remove/replace. Also it will undoubtedly make servicing some other component more difficult. Lastly, batteries mounted in high-heat locations are less efficient and shorter-lived.

Not only would you have difficulty with access with the battery under the hood, you will change the balance of your car.

Com'on guys. Most batteries are mounted in the engine compartment and function well and long in spite of the temp and the balance of my car changes every time I sit in it. My question was not, "do you think this is a good idea?" but " is there anyone who has tried it?"
