MGC Putting a 12v battery in the trunk

Hi Guys

Is there a kit to allow for the conversion of the 2 6v batteries to a 12v battery in the trunk? My battery cages have rusted through and one won't hold a battery any longer. AND the previous owner took what looks like a sledge hammer to the one of the battery box surrounds to fit a 12v batter into the 6v space. I've fixed the damage and now I'm thinking of putting the 12v into the trunk.f

Any ideas or instructions on how to do this is greatly appreciated.

Can't offer any advice but I think someone on this forum recently had a pic of a battery placed in front of the rad behind the grille. another option

Thanks JP

i have an MGC and there isn’t room to put the battery up front. B’s have space but radiator in the C is right up against the grill.

thanks for the response though

Mornin' Kev.

A case size 26 or 26R are small enough to fit in one of the 6V battery holders. And IIRC, Moss offer a plastic "liner" to accommodate.

Yeah, if your damage repair didn't change the dimensions, I'd go with the smaller 12V battery in one of the boxes, preferably passenger side. Even if you had room under the bonnet, you don't want any more weight there in a C.

As for the trunk mount, I don't know of any "kit" for that. But shouldn't be too difficult to drill holes for the cables' routing, then attach a hold-down bracket and you're done.

DrE is right in my MG B the # 26 fits well and I had the same problem rusted away I made a metal plate that attached to what was remaining placed four plastic peal off disk so battery did not sit on bottom. The other space could be used with the Moss liner for parts etc. A Battery Tender could also be mounted in the empty space with the added leads and ready when car sets in winter. Madflyer

One of my club members wanted to know what OEM color the valve cover on MG C's. You can respond to Madflyer or Triumph forum Madflyer

The very, very early MGCs had black crinkle finish on the valve cover. I don't know when the change to the green (same as engine color) occurred...

I don't know the answer myself, but my best friend owns an MG that he literally assembled with his own hands. So perhaps he should know that. Only I am afraid that his car is much older than yours, so this will not work.
