Hard to believe there were as many challenges as there were and that it took me half a day to get it done - but it's done and the new filter and oil are in.
I have to admit that I didn't change the filter in the canister when I got the car. I thought - hey I'll just put a spin on filter adapter and be done with it.
So time went by, changed the oil a few times but never the filter.
Then BillM heard I was looking for a spin on base and gave me one so finally I had what was needed.
I pulled off the old canister and mount and went to put the 'new' one on. It has this steel pipe that goes to the side of the block, well it was bent wrong for my motor. Trying to bend it to fit wasn't working. I called NAPA and asked them for options. They said I should use some high pressure hydraulic hose. So I went and bought a foot of that and made the connection. See, the old pipe that was the right shape to fit would not because the adapter at the end would not budge out of the new filter base and it's the wrong gender for the old pipe. So I could not use the old pipe and the new pipe wasn't going to reach, sure I bought a gender changer but that increased the length so it (the old pipe) still didn't fit right.
High pressure hydraulic hose and some clamps to the rescue.
Then of course one of the bolts had to come out with some aluminum threads attached, that made everything even more fun.
Now it's all together with new oil & filter and no leaks. My oil pressure is up a little while driving too, don't understand that but I'll certainly take it.
Originally I had planned to put the spin on thing together then plant some stuff in the garden and mow the grass.
Maybe I can do the yard & garden tonight after work.
