Installed spin on adapter yesterday - 948 motor

Hard to believe there were as many challenges as there were and that it took me half a day to get it done - but it's done and the new filter and oil are in.

I have to admit that I didn't change the filter in the canister when I got the car. I thought - hey I'll just put a spin on filter adapter and be done with it.
So time went by, changed the oil a few times but never the filter.

Then BillM heard I was looking for a spin on base and gave me one so finally I had what was needed.

I pulled off the old canister and mount and went to put the 'new' one on. It has this steel pipe that goes to the side of the block, well it was bent wrong for my motor. Trying to bend it to fit wasn't working. I called NAPA and asked them for options. They said I should use some high pressure hydraulic hose. So I went and bought a foot of that and made the connection. See, the old pipe that was the right shape to fit would not because the adapter at the end would not budge out of the new filter base and it's the wrong gender for the old pipe. So I could not use the old pipe and the new pipe wasn't going to reach, sure I bought a gender changer but that increased the length so it (the old pipe) still didn't fit right.

High pressure hydraulic hose and some clamps to the rescue.
Then of course one of the bolts had to come out with some aluminum threads attached, that made everything even more fun.

Now it's all together with new oil & filter and no leaks. My oil pressure is up a little while driving too, don't understand that but I'll certainly take it.

Originally I had planned to put the spin on thing together then plant some stuff in the garden and mow the grass.
Maybe I can do the yard & garden tonight after work.

Great to hear all is well. Funny how jobs that you think will be easy always have a surprise in store; it keeps life interesting. I guess.

Hey, if you have no further use for the metal oil pipe/banjo fitting, my project engine could use it. Want to sell it?

I certainly have no use for it.
Will you be at the next NODoody meeting?

Want the canister and mount too?
Unobtaneum to the Bugeye builder looking for originality.

My motor is an early 24,000 serial number "948 C U H 24,1xx" I think is what it says on the plate (from memory - YMMV).

Hi Rick,

I will be there. And I would LOVE the canister/mount, too!

Thx!

I'll put the whole thing in a large ziplock bag and write your name on it. I will put it in my trunk so I don't forget.

Thanks for this!
