Clicking in Right Rear of 1500

I have started noticing a clicking in the right rear of my '78 1500. It speeds up as I accelerate, and is constant whether the clutch in engaged or not, and whether I'm apply my breaks or not.

Put the rear end in the air, spin the wheel to see if you can hear the noise and try to isolate it. If the wheel doesn't spin consistantly, could be a bearing, could be in the brakes. Might be something in the tire.
Maybe Carmen Miranda is hiding out in your trunk with her little cymbalettes keeping time with your wheels.

Wouldn't you smell the bananas in her hat? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

More often than not, "clicking" is the result of a bad u-joint. Do check it out ASAP!

Agree! But could also be the rear wheel bearings which are notorious for going bad (and a bear to change). Once you get it up in the air you will be able to tell if the noise is from the Wheel or the U-joint. (Also, after a drive, feel the rear wheel hub - is it HOT to the touch?)

(I also have a 1500 Spit)

PS - Welcome to the BCF by the way!!

[/ QUOTE ]True. Sad thing is, by the time a rear wheel bearing REALLY goes bad on a Spitfire, odds are you've also ruined the axle shaft, which doubles as the bearing race. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

Then again, nothing spoils your day like having a u-joint on a Spitfire axle shaft break. That now-flailing axle can do amazing amounts of damage (do NOT ask me how I know). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif
