Won't Start, fuel pump?

Crisis

Hello folks,
I've got a '65 E-Type which is fairly new to me. Today after washing car and after car sat on a downward slope (don't know if that could be a factor), she would not start. Clicking in rear which I assume is the fuel pump, won't stop clicking. I assume system won't fully prime and that is why it won't start? Any thoughts or suggestions?

How full is tank? Was it sloped from pick-up. Remove drain plug and see if there is gas in it. This is assuming it has been driven previously and moved to slope on same day.

Tank is full having filled only same afternoon. Actually had a nice drive prior to parking on the driveway with a forward slope. Went into the house, had lunch, came out and car would not start. Fuel pumped continues to click when normally it would only click once or twice, then I could push button to start. I took out the spare tire and tools, removed the cover panel over the fuel pump and could see that there was air in the line going to the pump; trying to pull the gas but didn't seem to have the prime. Make any sense?

Thanks Larry,
Problem solved. Apparently these cars need gasoline? I took out the fuel gauge float just to get a look in the tank, and lo and behold, the tank was empty! I assumed the gas gauge was broken with and giving an empty reading even though the tank was full. Well the gauge wasn't faulty, the tank really was empty. I had been to the gas station earlier that day and thought I had just topped it up. In fact I think the pump (gas station) was turning itself off so I assumed it was full, when in fact it was nearly empty. Doh!
Thanks for your help anyway.

Happens to the best of us. Spent a whole eveing once with a frind trying to get a car running. He insisted it had a full tank of gas. Turned out to have a full tank, of air... Once a couple gallons were dropped in and the pump primed, started right up.

You should be able to tell when you have actually filled the tank -- you'll get 'see cashier' who will ask for either a 2nd mortgage or a spare kidney.
