Where does one fill the overdrive with oil on a BJ-7.

Using the transmission filler plug Bob, be sure you have the car on the level when you do it.---Keoke

If filling the xmsn from "dry" recheck the level and top up after running the overdrive unit (on jackstands, if you're careful, or just a trip around the block, if you can engage the ovd.).

The overdrive unit will "consume" some additional oil, to fill up the operating circuits.

When I had my early 100 tranny and O/D rebuilt the mechanic that worked on it suggested refilling with the front of the car elevated, I don't know if it is absolutely necessary, but can't hurt (as long as you don't overfill it) and might help to make sure enough oil flows back to the O/D

I don't know Glemon, but I feel that the potential for overfilling the OD is increased using that method.--Keoke

I would agree, and in fact I filled mine on the level after the rebuild and...no overdrive...I refilled using the method suggested by my rebuilder and the O/D worked, have no idea if it was having the car tipped up or ther right wire got jostled or some little piece of debris in an oilway got moved. And in deference due respect to the late great PH, now you know the rest of the story....

Probably best to fill on the flat to the recommended level and give it time to move into all the parts and see how it goes.

If one were to tip the car before filling one would of course measure the fluid put into the box for correct factory specs with and O/D box.
