Electronic Ignition?

For my Lotus 907 engine (in a Jensen Healey) I'm thinking about fitting an electronic distributor as offered by:

Anyone have any experience with these, or comparable installations?

Seems straightforward enough....

Anyone who's put one in their car seems pleased with it. I just "shrivel" a bit at the cost of the things... I could rebuild two points-type dizzys, put one onna shelf and still have change left.

That and I'm a Newtonian physics kinda guy when it comes to cars.

It looks broke to begin with, laying over on its side an' all... and the idea of pulling it out just to adjust the points seems mascochistic even to me, tho' perhaps not to the average Lotus owner.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

I'm looking for a "system" from a single vendor of Distributor & coil & wires & plugs so it will start all being compatible... in theory.

I hope this will help burn through all the oil fouling until I get the new old engine built.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

JW, Why not just spring for a Pertronix upgrade and a Lucas Sport Coil and you won't have to be a contortionist but once. Keep time spot on.---Fwiw---Keoke

I have been very happy with the Pertronix in my racer. It's less than $100 USD and I use a garden-variety coil and ballast resistor intended for an old Chevy (less than $20 USD total).
The spark is amazing and I never foul plugs even with approx. 12:1 A/F ratio.
Very reliable and bullet-proof in my experience.
Several friends with street cars and racers have had similar results with this setup. And it's easy to swap back to stock if needed.

I have the Pertronix in a couple cars. It works well. So did the points. The Sports Coil is nice too. I think the pertronix keeps the timing bore stabil, judging bt how much the timing marks move undre the timing light.

This is also my experience with Luminition (SP?) setups. They're much less affected by wear in the distributer shaft bushings so dwell is more consistent.
