If you don't have access to a press, you can use a piece of threaded rod and washers. Double nut one end, then washers, then threaded rod through the bushing, then a short piece of pipe or large socket followed by another washer followed by another nut. Are you picturing it yet? As you "tighten" the single nut, you draw the bushing through the trailing arm and into the socket or piece of pipe. Just make sure the pipe or socket is larger than the shoulder of the bushing so that it doesn't become an interference fit into it.

Or... the quick and dirty way if they are rubber is to use a torch and burn them out. quick. dirty. smelly.

Buy a press - they are only $40. If you are doing the back you will probably be doing either the U joints or the front at some point. You'll thank me...

Shawn is right about the threaded rod getting them out, but I will say that a press has it beat hands down for pushing in the new ones. I used a hammer on mine to tap them in, and it's real hard to swing with both sets of fingers crossed...

Alan is correct. I just did my trailing arm bushings. I bought a 1 ton arbor press from Northern Tools for about $50 with shopping. It made getting the bushings out a piece of cake.

as an alternate, drill a number of holes thru the rubber bushes to relieve the stress. then beat the tar out of it with a socket and hammer. it works.
