I have mine mounted on the heater duct under the dash on the passenger's side -- out of sight, but easily accessible.

Any suggestions on a good place to mount a fire extinguisher in my '64 AH3000?

I mounted mine in the boot of my 64.
Held in place with one clip.
Flip the clip up and pull the extinguisher tube out.

Jeez Roger, the car might be engulfed in flames by the time you stop, pull the key, get out of the car, open the trunk, get the extinguisher, go back to release the hood latch, get out of the car again, put the extinguisher on the ground, use both hands to open the safety latches on the hood, attach the prop rod, pick the extinguisher back up, pull the pin and squirt. :jester:

I used to have mine (Halon 1211) here:

But I'm undecided if I want to put it back there with my new interior...

... I've been thinking about mounting it to the forward-underside of the driver's seat base (the slanted portion). It would be both out of the way-out of sight and at the same time, readily at hand.

I wish I had thought of that while I was recovering the seats...

Vintage racing requires access to the fire extinguisher in short order. I have mine mounted just in front of the shifter.................heater delete.

Yikes,

Guys, anyone going to cut me some slack for at least being one of the guys who actually has an extinguisher in the car?

Oh no, I can't get to the fire extinguisher, for the fire is under the dash...where the extinguisher is! Lol.

Greg, help me out here. How's about Photoshopping the extinguisher as a removable stick shift. Got fire? Bring it on. I've got my hand on the trigger all the time.

I've got a pair of speakers mounted on the heater duct, under the passenger side dash, no extinguisher there. What was I thinking.

Cheers!
Roger

For all the others who read this post, having a fire extinguisher is like insurance. You may or may not need it down the road. But having one in the car, anywhere, is better than not having one at all.

As others have mentioned, under the dash is a good location, if you have the space. Best of luck Steve, good post.

Cheers,
Roger

Hey y'all,
Since I drive a BN6 and anyone else driving one with the package tray
under the dash, I simply keep my extinguisher on the tray, easily
accessible. Of course, like everyone else, if a fire breaks out
while I'm driving it's probably going to be coming from the engine
compartment, so stop the car, fiddle for the hood release, get out,
release the hood catches, then finally raise the hood which by now would
be about a 1000 degrees hot, etc, etc, etc. Of course if you're working
on your Healey, and the wiring harness starts to burn, you can grab that
extinguisher from the parcel shelf and keep things from getting worse
since at least you have one handy !!! BTW Roger, nice installation
on those speakers !
Regards,
Mike

GregW, I know you are.

On a less serious note. Being my extingisher is not under that dash and the 15 second sprint, quicker if I'm wearing running shoes at the time, will have caused my car to burst into flames, then somehow drive itself off a cliff and explode like in the movies, I'll go with a completely different approach.

:square: Let me get this right - seems that everyone that has a Healey has or should have a fire extinguisher. Oh I forgot - Lucas wiring and British engineering. I think I should install an automatic one like in the race cars. An inertia switch and poof - the entire car is covered in stuff.

Now your talkin!

Mine is tucked behind the passenger seat (BN7)lying on the floor. The seat back and back shelf keep it in place with no bracket clip to deal with. It is readily at hand in case of need.

Does everyone here use a Halon extinguisher? Any other recommendations or vendors?
I also have a battery disconnect switch on my car-Hella makes a very nice one that you can find on eBay pretty cheap as many new German cars have these temporarily installed during their trip across the pond.

I have a Halon one, as the dry-chemical would do more damage than a small fire (I unloaded one on a set of flaming Healey carbs when I was working in the San Francisco shop one time__real disaster).
