I've always carried a fire extinguisher in the trunk, but I figure it's about time to mount on inside where I can access it quickly.

I've seen them mounted on the rear shelf, anybody got any better ideas about where to mount one?

Thanks!

I have mine mounted on my faux roll bar using a Pegasus Racing mount.

I have a small chrome Halon extinguisher mounted to the kickpanel in the passenger footwell. Hope to never need it.

Always had one there in the MGB's. With th' Loti it's mounted crossways in front of the driver's seat. That way if needed it's in a "naturally grabbed" first reaction position. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

So far (37 years, knock wood) I've only used it to douse OTHER peoples' bad luck. First Wife once put out a schoolbus engine bay fire with the one in the original B.

Mine just lay (or is it lie?) on the floor behind the passenger seat. I also carry 'fire blankets' obtained when a Path lab remodel made them redundant. Have never had to use either.

P.S. -- Decided it's 'lay on the floor'

P.P.S. - Thanks PK, it should be 'lie'.

I thought it's lay in your bed but lie on the floor. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

On the floor right in front of the passenger seat. Surprisingly out of the way, yet very easy to get to and visible for car shows that require them.

Where ever you decide it should fitted I would suggest :
You are able to reach it and remove it from the holder while still belted in the drivers seat , and ,

mount the thing in a steel holder - the type with an "over centre" clamp - and BOLT (not screw) it in place. If needed fit a reinforcing plate behind the mount panel to secure it.

If you hit something and the car comes to a sudden halt the last thing you want is a 2kg steel cased projectile firing off around the cabin at 60 kph.

Here in Australia the local racing circuit will automatically disallow any vehicle fitted with an extinguisher mounted in a plastic holder or retained with screws.

Pete.

An important consideration is to make sure it is secure: if it gets loose in an accident and flies around inside the car it could hurt someone.

(Lay is both the past tense of the verb "lie" and the transitive form. So you can lay bricks to build a wall, but you cannot lay down, you must lie down.)

I only had two accidents in my Triumphs. One in my TR4 at less than the speed limit. And one in my GT6 when I asked the passenger if it was clear to pull out from a stop on a city back street.

So, safety first! Drive faster!

Oddly enough, I know people that lie standing up, too.
