Not that it's a very interesting subject, but I replaced the fuel sending unit on the 72B. The gauge quit working, so a new one was ordered and I put it in yesterday. Found the one I took out, which was only 6 years old, had a crack in it's plastic float and was full of gas. Found that the sender is still good, just in need of a float. Another spare part for the bin. That float should not have gone bad in that short of a time! Oh well, nothing new there.
I did take it out for a 20 mile run and the car preformed flawlessly! PJ

Not sure if we could blame ethanol or P-Poor quality materials... but my take is it'll be a bit of both.

Hey, at least it was a nice, simple fix. I like those.

Bad thing about all of this is, the prices of these parts keep going up but the quality keeps going down! Electronics seem to be holding their own though, actually getting better in some stuff. :encouragement: PJ

I had the same thing happen to mine. Tried to find the brass Ford version of the float but no luck. Drilled a tiny hole where the crack was, drained the gas and filled the crack/hole with a fuel resistant glue from the hardware store and worked fine ever since.

The crack in this float is in the grove where the wire arm snaps in. It could be repaired with a high tech glue, but I would only do that in an emergency where a new one was not available. I think I have a copper float in one of the drawers and I'll probably repair it with that. PJ
