Today I installed the "safety gauge" (Water temperature/oil pressure) that I sent off to Nisonger's for repair.
Reinstallation was pretty straightforward and for a change the "replacement" part of the R & R was easier than the "removal" because the new capillary tube was much more flexible than the old one.
In running the engine to test the oil and water fittings for leaks I noticed a small drip of coolant from the heater's return hose. A close inspection revealed that the entire inner surface was on the verge of failing and I was able to find a suitably curved molded replacement at the local Autozone.
I must confess that I have been driving the car for almost a year without a functioning WT gauge and have enjoyed not paying attention to what effect traffic, etc. had on the temperature. During this afternoon's test ride I quickly reverted to the old habit of frequently glancing at the gauge, but ambient temperatures are a pleasant 65 degrees and everything seems in order.
