I got a problem with gear changing after oil service in the workshop.
How that can happen?
I would be happy if anybody has an answer
best regards, Her

Did they drain the transmission and fill the engine?

Don't laugh I knew someone who did exactly that with his brand new BMW. Drained the gear box and refilled the motor. Even in those days - early '80's - BMW gearboxes were v expensive.

I looked in the Victoria British book and they don't show the right side of the gear box but I know on mine that there are two plugs, one to fill the transmission and the other I'm not sure but I think it's called a pivot pin and that goes into the reverse operating lever. I went into the garage and looked and the fill plug is a square pipe plug closer to the front of the trans, the other has a 1/2" hex head. I hope this helps but I thinks someone pulled the wrong one.

Probably a worn shifter bushing. A common problem is the 1500 gearbox.
Be sure to use 90W gear oil (or equivilant) and not the motor oil that is used in older Midget and Sprite transmissions.

Hi
thanks a lot for looking
you are right i watched in the Haynes but there is no real picture of it but there are 2 screws.
Now the question is, if they did it - is it possible to fix it without deinstalling the gearbox....

with dreaming of gearboxes since the weekend,
best regards, her

hi
the story is, that everything was ok up to the "maintanace"
visit......and they said we did no oil change, but i had advised them to do it....
may be its a virus in the workshop or gremlins..

best regards, her

I tried to find out couple weeks ago what that second plug was on the 1500 trans. I ocassionally loosen it as opposed to the real oil fill plug above it. I realized the error and tightened it up before going to far. Kinda hard to see under there. This is an easy thing to do. Its the same size wrench. Not sure what it is but I assume definately possible they pulled it out onlt to see it was not the correct thing to do. Can I assume this has something to do with reverse shifter then? Good luck.

I've recently had my 1500 tranny apart. I hope you aren't talking about he reverse lever pivot. It is what physically manipulates the reverse idler between the 1-2 synchro and the reverse gear. I'm not sure what it would do if it were pulled all the way out. It screws into the transmission case and has a point that fits into the operating lever. I was thinking it was higher than the fill port though. I'm uploading some of the images I have of mine right after I opened it to possibly help you out.

I can see what poss. hapened....and what they had done...
If the ( wrong) screw is removed the "fork" seems to fall down and....
I dont think that its possible to fix it without deinstalling the gearbox...
happy work for a weekend somehow..

I hope I didn't mislead you. After I studied the pictures a bit I realized that I had it backwards to some extent. If the bolt we are talking about is pulled out not much will happen initially. The shaft that the reverse idler gear is held into place by that bolt but it is captured by the tail housing as well so unless you drove around with it out...nothing should really happen. Also, if the shaft did slip out of place you wouldn't have reverse and possibly no 1st gear if I'm thinking correctly. I don't think this is the issue. Your synchros could be tired but if you don't "hurry" the shift the box should last a good long time. If you can't shift at all without grinding the gears then it is probably time to pop her open and have a look see.
