Checking for front suspension wear

Hi guys - some newbie front suspension questions here.

Here one side of the disc brake front suspension for the Bugeye. Everything seems tight, but there is some movement in the joint indicated by the red arrows. Will re-bushing this take care of that?

Movement there often requires the A-arms to be rebuilt (or replaced) along with the fulcrum pin. Unfortunately, the fulcrum pin is often seized to the kingpin and will necessitate a new king pin. But since you are replacing the kingpin, you might as well replace the bushings in the swivel axle.

Hi Trevor - thanks for the help.

Swivel pin = King pin?

Are you saying the spring pan/arms #7 need to be replaced, the fulcrum pin #9, or #27.

Sorry, being a bit slow this AM.

It appears you need the items under number 27, plus the fulcrum pin, number 9, for both sides. You will have to have a machine shop install and properly ream the bushings and fit the kingpins for this repair - unless you have access to a reamer that is correct for the job. Moss and VB sell the reamer but it is very expensive. Seeing as you are this far into the project you may want to go with number 26 and renew all the bushings etc.

Yup, the complete kit #26 is advisable since you are this far into it. However, if the threaded bushings are worn in the A-arm, you will need to have the A-arm rebushed, or replace the A-arm. Otherwise you will still have excessive play in the location you noted.
