Several of the links I have were bent slightly at the top of the threaded section. Too extreme a bend would make the trunnion stiff at points when you rotate it. Several of mine are worn slightly on one side of the top of the threaded section where the trunnion was rubbing against it. One side inside of the trunnion was worn as well.
I tweaked a couple by putting an old trunnion on the thread to protect it and then nudged the vertical link in a press, applying pressure to the flat section where the steering stop touches. Minimal movement is needed.
I guess there are people who would be reticent to use a vertical link that has been tweaked like that.
