Mornin, just a quick question before I get started for the day:

Has anyone used double stick tape for the carpet installation? If so, how did it work?

Thanks, Tinkerman

I did my entire installation with no tape or glue. I have never had any trouble with it blowing up or moving, unless I pull it up.

But, to answer your question, there is no reason the double-stick would not work. The only areas that it would be needed are the very front, center carpet above the tunnel and against the firewall, and then the forward, top kick panels on each side. I was able to wedge mine in in those area, and they stay put without any stick-um. Other areas that could cause problems use snaps to hold it, like the tunnel and floors.

What John said. I actually bought a inexpensive i.e. cheap carpet set for mine. Everything "laid" in well..even the tunnel. For the front piece on the firewall and the two kick panels, I just used the 3M spray upholstery adhesive. Its' all been there for 3 years or so with no problems and lays well. I also bought the rubber logo mats for the front to protect the carpet. You're going to be driving that thing if you keep it up.

Dick,

For the verticle pieces on the kickwell and the bulkhead, I used industrial strength Velcro strips to fix the carpets. I bought is by the roll at Home Depot. You can cut the strips to length.

For the tranny tunnel and floor carpets in front of the seats, I used the veltex carpet rings and snaps.

Cheers

I agree - no glue or adhesive. Sooner or later you're going to get caught in a sudden soaking rain...

Once everything is wet you'll want to be able to dry it all quickly and completely. The kick panels I screwed on but adhesive could be used there as they usually do not have to come out to dry.

I, too, used velcro. Before laying the carpet, I covered most everything, especially the tranny tunnel, with water heater blanket, foil side down. Really helps to cut the heat on the right leg from the tranny tunnel.
