TR2/3/3A 1960 TR3A Holes in the tranny tunnel

I have three holes in the top of the tranny tunnel.
one is for the gear shift and one is an is a rubber plugged hole but gives me access to the universal joint.
The third hole is right at the front and is 1/2" in diameter too small for a grommet . I'm guessing it is the battery box drain tube exit. If so then how do I get my OD wiring into the OD?

Thanks, Tinkerman

Personally, I route it out through one of the holes on the face of the firewall and back into the tunnel from there. But I believe there should be a 1" hole on the LH side of the tunnel, maybe 8-12" back from the front.
If you zoom in on this photo, perhaps you can see the empty grommet, where the shadow of the steering wheel spoke meets the side of the tunnel.

And before you make fun of my carpet, let me say that I had no money at all in those days (and a sick wife to care for); the carpet was free.

Thanks Randall. Hope your wife is OK now. I never make fun of anything I see in a side screen TR. Besides yours is on the road mine is not, though it is getting closer with each passing day, heh.

Cheers, Dick

No worries, Dick. That's actually all ancient history at this point, wife passed away in 2003 and TR3A got totaled in 2004 (or was it 2005). I've since replaced both of them.

Life goes on, and all that.

Not that the TR3 interior looks a lot better at this point, but at least the carpet is black and covers the tunnel. Dropped it off at the paint shop this morning for them to correct some goofs, not sure when I'll get it back.

I've got the same hole that Randall describes plus another one that came with my 3A.
Seems to me that the lower 1" inch one wouldn't work for OD wiring.
The OD relay was mounted on the battery box. (holes provided by the factory)
The wiring routed through the bottom hole would get in the way of the drivers foot.
The top hole is located on the opposite side of the drain hose hole and about 2" aft of it.
That seemed the logical location for the OD wiring so that's what I used. I never did
figure out what the bottom hole was for, but I did notice that it lines up perfectly with
the transmission filler hole.??

I've routed the wiring out the bottom hole and plan to run it under the tunnel carpet to the firewall and then up to the relay. Never thought of it getting in the way of my foot. Brits drive on the other side of the car. I suppose a squirming screaming wife could get it tangled up in her feet.

So, what do you do when you have to remove the tunnel? Disconnect all the OD wiring?

Yes, but after unscrewing 17 nuts, what's a couple more wires? Actually, I inserted a small plug on the cockpit side of the
tunnel hole, and after popping the grommet I can stuff everything thru to the tranny side.

Not on my TRs. The transmission filler hole is way over on the other side, and has a dipstick stuck in it.

You have it right. The small hole is for the drain tube. The OD wiring goes through the left side hole.

Thanks for the pic Bruce. It so purdy I'd be tempted to hang it on the wall for all to see!
Anyhow thanks to all of you for your input.
I shall go forth and make progress.

Thanks, Dick

Yeah, they look purdy till you start re-installing them. I cannot figure out how the tunnel and wings can fit perfectly prior to painting. Then, after you remove them for painting they have to be banged back into place!
