Upgrading BN1 frt brakes

Just wondering, would it be better to use Bn7 or BJ8 disc & calipers, etc. I would imagine I'd have to use kingpins also. Would this affect value? I just would like it to stop better,I could always keep all old parts, thanks Genos2

I think the BJ8 brakes would be the better of the two, but much harder to find a complete setup, the car is not a heavy as the BJ8 so it may not be necessary and the BN7 setup would work just fine. Do some research though regarding the brake booster. Will it be necessary to use it with the BJ8 setup and if so, does the 4 cyl generate enough vaccuum to work it. The kingpins would not need to be changed as they are the same for all big Healeys. The value thing is a little bit more challenging. It would depend upon what level your car is, driver, concours, etc. If it is a driver then I don't think there will be much value difference. It may also increase the value in that scenario. Now if you have a concours car, then it may decrease the value.

I installed the Dennis Welch disc brake upgrade on my BN2. Works fine, no vacuum booster needed.

I looked at the Welch setup, looks like stock(upgraded) BJ8 stuff.Sure is spendy, wonder why they show diferent part # for BN1 or BN2 on. I think I've got 2or3 stock BJ 8 assemblies out back. I think that would be my best bet.I did't realize kingpins were the same. Thanks alot, cheers Genos2

I have stock BN/BT 7 front brakes on my 100. No need for a power booster--in fact plenty of reasons to NOT use one.

King pin is the same but the stub axle may be different. That could explain why Welch has two different part numbers. The early ones may have a problem bolting up a disc brake assembly.

If thats the case, then could't I bolt in either the complete assembly (kingpin&stubaxle)or pretty sure i've even got control arms I could use. cheers

Yes if you have the discs set up from a late car the suspension parts should be bolt in, I had a 100 with the earlier BN/BT brake set up, worked fine, not a huge issue but I believe the pads and new discs for the BJ8s are cheaper if you need to replace them, I know I put new disc rotors on mine and remember being bummed when I figured out I had the earlier set up because the parts were more.

I wouldn't think you would need the booster with the BJ8 set-up, but others who have had it could say more definitively.
