Apologies for taking over the forum with prolific posting.

The machine shop called with good news, the conrod is fixed, and the crank too, big ends now -.050" and the mains have been polished and are well within spec so still at -.040", they have the shells in and I have everything else delivered or cleaned up ready.

I've taken the day off tomorrow to get started and will carry on all weekend.

Hi Ben,
Great news, glad things are going better.

I was not aware that rod bearing inserts are available in .050" undersize. What is the source of these bearings?

Hi Ben, just got onto your plight, I don't have a pulley, but try Rawles behind the Hen and Chicken on the A32, can't be 100% but give him a try. You could also tap up members of the New Forest centre, we have our own web site somewhere ? I'm around the corner and along a bit at Horndean ( Portsmouth )

Best of luck /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

False start.....

False start....

Went to collect the parts from the machine shop, the crank is fine, the con rod fine, he went off to make out the bill and so I opened the mains to look, all fine, brand is 'King', not a brand I had heard of but its a highly reputable engineering works so that's ok, then.....I opened the big end shells (Dave - they were Glacier), it seems that they were NOS and have been damp at some point, although wrapped in oiled paper they had rusted quite badly. He is going to call his supplier tomorrow. I see one of the usual suppliers list -050 so should be ok...I bloody hope.

I can get started and have plenty to be getting on with.

Never easy though is it.

Re: False start.....

Burgndyben;

"King" is an 0ld and well known bearing manufacturer in the UK. Glacier is also but is now merged with Vanderville and is under the Dana Corporate name. All of them make top drawer bearings---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
