SU HS4's "vs" Weber 32/36

Just bought a 79 midget. The mechanic working on it says the Strom Carb is shot. He recommends a Weber Conv Kit. A friend says SU HS4's cause they'll just bolt onto existing manifold and are easier to tune. Actually he said they're pretty much a bolt on deal and the Weber requires some tinkering and parts are getting expensive and harder to find w/the strike. Please, please, please Advise me!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'm a confirmed SU fan, myself. The HS4 will bolt right up, it's easy to tune, and parts are plentiful. That's what I used on my race 1500 Spit, and it worked like a charm.
I've never run the 32/36 Weber, but there are those here that have, or do. Someone with more experience on them will be along shortly.

The ZS carb probably could be rebuilt more affordably, but an HS4 is a viable option. Or, www.lbcarco.com did have some NOS ZS carbs for a reasonable price.

I replaced my ZS with an HS4 setup and am very pleased with the results. Once it's been tuned you just leave it alone.

If lbc's were meant to use Webers they would say FIAT on the bonnet /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

There is some excellent material on this subject in David Vizard's book, How To Tune the A-Series engine.

If you have $35 to spare I highly reccomend it.
