HS2 and HS4 measurment

I'm hoping someone would be able to take a measurement off of an HS2 and an HS4 for me. I'm looking for the length from the center of the throat to the bottom of the float bowl.

Just to satisfy my curiosity has anyone tried using twin HIF4's on a 1500? I know you can use the HS2's from a Spitfire and that the HS4's can be used but requires some cutting of the foot well. So the other day I was roaming the wrecking yard and came upon a '77 MGB with HIF4's and it got me to thinking. If the bowls on the HIF4's was shorter than the HS4's then maybe they could be used. The measurement from the center of the throat to the bottom of the bowl on the HIF4 is 3.4 inches.

Just a thought.

Yeah, that works well on the spitfire engine with horizontal carbs, but not so well with the A series engines. Little too much angle

This would be on a '76 Midget with the 1500.

The HIF4's work good on my 1500...
No clearance issues at all.

If you get some try to get the old mgb filter mounts as well, the radius for the opening aperture was designed for performance and they fit the type of K&N filters above.

Rich, IIRC they won't clear. I believe I measured for them before. You can use HS4's w/o cutting the well. Gotta make a bracket to offset the bolw,. I did and thought I had a vaporlock issue but it turned out to be a bad fuel cap. I found the bad cap after I took the carbs off so I can't say 100% for sure you won't have a vapor lock problem w/ an offset bowl.

Rick,

They work fine with the Nissan 1500 like you have, but not with the Triumph 1500. The carbs are on the opposite side and the bowl of the rear carb fouls the top edge of the foot well. The home market (UK) cars didn't have this problem because the steering shaft on the right hand drive cars allowed for enough clearance. Even the HS2 has a problem with the rear carb hitting, but if you shim the front motor mount you can get just enough clearance. I don't know if you looked at Brian’s car the last time we met at Phil's, but that is what he has done and is very happy with his HS2 setup.

Billy,

I had thought about offsetting the bowl, but if the HIF4 would clear then no need. I figured if it did clear it would be talked up a bit more though. This is all just a bit of 1500 day dreaming.

IIRC they won't. I had to swap the waxstat jet for a regular one for room. The HIF's bowl is even bigger in that area and needs even more room.
