Got it to run well enough to get the timeing within a couple of degrees, progress.

Man does it lope, 2300 to 1000 back and forth. What in the world do you supose causes that? I've no clue.

H1's do not have springs in the dash pots.

And yes, after pondering this I just may have a vacumn leak.
I was so careful. sigh.

ooops. I live in 1275 land. ALthough I have a slew of 948 bits in my basement to be sorted through.

Just had a chance to look at the photo album of "Miss Agatha", great pictures and excellent work. It does always seems that there's one more thing to do, fix or correct on these projects though.

Judging by the work you've done, Miss Agatha will be wearing high heels and furs when she's strutting her stuff.
Makes my 1959 BE look like a poor cousin from the wrong side of the tracks!

Jack, is there not a spring (#18 in VB pp86) in the H1?

One area to check for a vacuum leak that is often overlooked, is between the manifold and block where the "locating ring" fits. There is a gap in the ring that has given me a problem or two in the past! One way to find a vacuum leak is to use a propane torch, unlit, around suspect areas. If an increase in RPM is noted while applying gas, you can pin-point a vacuum leak!! Goes without saying...NO SMOKING!!

Probably goes without saying but don't over tighten things thinking this will solve a vacum leak. Be sure that's the problem then solve it correctly.

H1 carbs have no dashpot springs nor do 948's have locating rings on the intake manifold.

We strange little guys.

Think I got the binding sorted out, had a bad choke tube.

Man is cold here, not sure I will get much done today.
