New Wheel Bearings Question

SO I received a new set of Front Wheel Bearings from MOSS. There is what appears to be a rubber / plastic insert on both sides that holds the bearings in place. Can someone tell me if is here for shipping purposes and should be removed prior to bearing install? I've never seen a wheel bearing with a rubber insert like this before.

The Outer bearing - The thicker inner race which lines up wit the hub spacer I believe is the Thrust Side. This side has all of the printing on it.

Inner Bearing, the bigger one, has a radiused edge with printing on it. It fits well on the spindle with radiused edge facing the inside of the spindle/ base of the spindle.

I don't think that is right. Shouldn't the bearings have both sides with printing on them facing one another?.

OK so I figured out the Thrust Side as sides with printing on them align better with wheel spacer. But what about the plastic insert in the bearing cage itself. Unfortunately I just uploaded to IOS 7.1.1 and can no longer upload photos. SOB!

photo.jpgOK finally got a picture over to me desktop. Here's a picture of the bearing with plastic race insert showing. Is this supposed to be left in the race or removed. It is molded like it is supposed to remain in there.

You know Bill that would be a much too logical thing to do. Yes I will do that.

Leave them in.

Second that. Those are just spacers to keep the balls in place after the bearing is assembled. They do the same thing as the stamped and spot welded metal spacers. Remove the plastic inserts and the bearing will spontaneously disassemble.

Agree.....leave them in. I believe you are looking at the ball carrier. Used to be brass. The wide side of the inner race on both bearings should face away from the wheel. Think of a side load in either direction and you will realize the widest part of the bearings should take that load. Moss catalog used to have a good explanation. Nice to see they have gotten rid of the 1/2 bearing they were supplying. I have a ruined hub from one of those.

Cool that's the same decision I came to. Bearings get lubed, hubs assembled, and sub assembly put together. Then it goes into the tub as a completed assembly. Then back to bodywork. This was supposed to be January work when too cold to be in the garage.

DJ Romero at MOSS Tech Support confirmed that brass bearing cages have now been replaced with what appears to be nylon or Teflon cages. Not an issue install as is. Grease well as usual. Thanks all fir your help.
