The disc is not marked, I have looked at every catolog and repair manual and none of them shows a clear definate way.

This is an easy one. Kinda like pouring pee out
of a boot with the instructions written on the heel.
Even a non-mechanic such as yours truly had no difficulty
determining which side faced against the flywheel.

I just happened to have a clutch plate sitting on the
floor of my office. (don't go there) Here's photographic
instructions! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/computer.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

The flat rivet heads side goes against the flywhee;
as seen in photo above. But it should be stamped.
Clean the metal surface with brake cleaner and look
for it again, just to be safe.

Do you have the plastic centering tool as well?

best of luck- if you encounter any problems,Ace
Mechanic Dave might enjoy a visit to sunny Colifor-nigh-ah.

One side of the disc is almost flat. the other side is raised in the center. The raised side ALWAYS goes toward the pressure plate. Dave

David is THE MAN when it comes to TR clutches.
He taught me all I know about them.

Flat to flywheel
Raised to fingers

remember the disk grips the flywheel by friction,
therefore flat to flat.

If it is installed incorrectly the raised portion (steel)will grind into the flywheel, not the friction material.

dave,

thinking more about it. I don't think it is
actually possible to assemble all the components
if the disk is reversed against the flywheel.

I don't think there is room enough with the torsion
springs reversed. The mounting bolts might not be
longen enough.

It sure would make a great grinding noise if installed
in reverse.

One of the LBC vendors tech help sites described it this way " you can fit it in either way. but you will only put it in wrong once. Next time you will make sure it is correct before putting the transmission back in place.

Dale, it can be done. Maybe not on the TR6, but believe me, but it has been done many times. By professionals....
