Weird motor mount??

Saw an article today about the millionth Morris minor. It looks like it shares a lot of parts with the spridgets. In the pic below, is that an additional motor mount? Right in front of the battery going between the bottom of the battery box to a head bolt near the heater valve.

It isn't a motor mount so much as an anti-vibration hold down (probably has a real name) I know my 1500 Midget has a similar unit attaching the engine to the subframe (IIRC)

As I think a little more, it may also be to hold the engine somewhat in place in case of an accident.

It's called an "engine steady", and is standard on all Morris Minors. They are frequently broken off over the years or been repaired, often somewhat poorly.

thanks for the updates, it looks like 1/4" all-thread. Didn't seem like it would be significant. I was curious if it would be helpful on a Bugeye to have the same.

The Mg TD, and probably other models, use an identical device to steady the engine. Below is a picture of mine, obviously pre-restoration.

Minis also use engine steadies. Though the Minor may look like that part is all threaded rod, there are almost certainly rubber bushings in each of the brackets on the end of the rod.

It's used to keep the car from sling shoting into the curb when taking off from a light.
