How you'll see multiple cars that you haven't
seen in ages?
I saw a Hornet Sportabout on the local craigslist.
Then I saw another one for sale as I was driving around
town.
I saw a Nash Metropoliton driving down a local
street a couple of days ago, then saw another tonight.
What are the odds?
all of a sudden,I've been seeing a lot of older
cars driving around that I've never seen before.BTW
Doc,the Alfa that I saw was a Berlina.

We had two of these (a '72 and a '73) during the 70s and 80s while I was growing up. Never drove them, but remember the vinyl seats in the sun. What a stupid idea.

Always thought they were good looking, but not the best performers. Maybe they're becoming collectable now...

You could get a Hornet with cloth interior, Drew.

I used to sell 'em. Along with Berlinas & Europas... strangest showroom on earth.

Ours were second hand jobs, Doc, so no chance for fancy options. That would have been an odd showroom for sure, but cool all the same.

My mom traded the last one in on a new '85 4-cylinder Chevy Celebrity wagon (the car I learned to drive in). The very definition of gutless, so perfect for young drivers. I must say, the bench seat proved useful later on as well, but that's another story for another place.

You could get a Levi's edition Hornet if I recall correctly. AMC had several "special editions" of that sort.

OK
Doc, can I top that?
We sold Studebakers, Triumphs, the entire BMC line, Alfas, Mercedes, Fiat, and Toyotas. All in the same showroom.
No Lotus though.

Mercedes and Toyota both wanted the old man (hard headed father-in-law) to open separate, exclusive dealerships or lose them. He refused and they went to others. Then the LBC's failed, Studie's already gone, and nothing left to sell.
Turned out the lights and said he was ready to retire anyhow. Never admitted a mistake.

This place was a Stude/Rambler shop in the earlier days, when I was there we had American Motors, Alfa and Lotus. Porsche came next and the "riff-raff" had to go.

I recently spotted a Levi's Edition Gremlin, just south of Calgary and behind a fence, but I did get a photo of course!

And all the fellow photographers I was with were wondering why I wanted a photo of it, especially after coming back from some nature photography, I think they thought I was kind of crazy...

And here's that photo, about the only one I could get actually...

It's so odd to see that emblem on a car, it almost looks photoshopped. Neat pic. of course that color on the car must have been named "Denim blue"
I had to admit my ignorance of the "sportabout" to Doug in a recent phone call, but Dougs info and some quick google action enlightened me. My parents had a Concord wagon when I was little. Whatever AMC used to make the vinyl seats made me nauseous every time we took a trip. I never got carsick in anything else, but I had a limited range in that car. that got traded in on a Pontiac Sunbird Wagon. that's what I learned to drive on.

When I was learning the school cars were Ford Escort Mk2s, Fiesta Mk1s and a Mini, and our family car was a 1963 Triumph Herald. 30+ years on, I can say, you never really stop learning. After passing my test I got my hands on a (free) 1960 Austin A40 that someone just wanted out of the way. It's long gone of course but this is why I have a 1966 A40 now!
