Started fine after 3 years!!

After a little thinking, I've decided to get rid of one of the BMWs to free up some driveway space. It's been sat there for 3 years, slowly going green and not really serving any purpose. So I put a new water pump on it last week, and picked up a new battery the other day (man those things are heavy, and almost as big as the Sprite!). Put the bettery in this afternoon, checked the fluid levels and turned the key...
Started straight up, but ran a bit rough for 15 seconds while the old fuel worked through and now she's purring! Moved her forwards and no oil on the driveway! Brakes worked fine, not even seized! Needs a service, a new set of tyres, wiper blades and a clean and she'll be ready to sell.
Those Germans really know how to make cars (but the Sprites are still more fun!)

I hope I have the same results with my bugeye! She's been sitting for nearly three years (I know, I know, but she has started at least half a dozen times in the interim while just sitting!). I was just looking her over this morning and boy it's amazing how nasty stuff gets! Got my tranny parts and now comes the fun stuff! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

The engine bay in the BMW is minging, so tomorrow will be spent with a bottle of Autoglyms engine and machine cleaner, so it should be sparkling by the end of the day! Handy hint: if you want to get in all the nooks and crannies, with out getting caked in dirt yourself, go to the local hardware store and get an angled radiator paint brush. Also good for cleaning all the door shuts!

Those radiator brushes do REALLY come in handy. Haven't had one though since I moved to Fl. and they are non-existent down here!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif Maybe I will have to shop on-line for some!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

BAH! I just lit off a V-12 Jag wot has been sitting for at least three years. Oil change, plug inspection and spin it to see O/P... It lit off on the second turn of the key. No leaks, plenty of vroom. If they're right and not cobbed together, English cars are just as stout.

"IF" is the biggest word in the English language, Doc...& it's usually attached to "if...the PO did all the maintenance correctly & didn't bodge things up".

And that applies to German cars as well. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I did the valve job on this car nearly ten years ago. Carbs, Crane iggy, lots of things got "UN-fubar'd" then.

Well, in this case, I am the DPO ( /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif ) so I will have no one to blame but you-know-who /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif !!! Not ready to try yet, but will keep you posted!! (I have every faith that there will be no problem! what daunts me is all the clean-up and detail work that must be re-addressed!) /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif
