Rocker Cover Paint

Does anyone know where I can source the correct color for the rocker cover on my 76 Midget, and the color that the rest of the engine was painted. Of course, after I find out the colors I then have to find out where to buy them.

I have run out of ideas.

Thanks as usual
Al

Al if you find out let me know. I'm in the beginnings of a 76 restoration as well. I am struggling with the prospect of rebuilding the 1500 now or getting it running smooth and enjoying it this summer. Mostly I'm just collecting information at this point. I'm sure we can come close by looking at old ads and such but to find an exact color would take a detective.

A '76 rocker cover was painted 'red'. It was a red with a slight orange tinge to it. Any good red should do unless you are going for concours.

Al,
Let me try again as I missed the second part of your question. The engine was painted black. The valve covers were either red (US market) or silver (home market).

The Original series book on these cars is unusally complete, unfortunatly I gave my copy away after losing my Midget (some inconsiderate woman drove her Toyota onto the bonnet). You should be able to fing it at Amazon or B&N though, should be worth the price.

It depends on the engine 1500 Triumph black/silver, 1275 MG dark red. I believe Moss sells very accurate engine paint.

Thanks to everyone as usual for the great information... I believe that I need the "dark" orange for the rocker cover. On another thread I read that the Ford heat resistant orange is very close so I'll give it a try.

Thanks again

Noooo, 1275s were never red, they were either <font color="green">green</font>, <font color="#94B499">light metallic green </font> or <font color="black">black</font>

I used Ford Engine Red (Duplicolor brand engine enamel). It can be found at any Autozone and is a reasonable match if you're not too picky. Plus, then you can respray infinitely many times for cheap if you scratch it (my valve cover could probably use a respray).
