I just pulled my dizzy to change out several of the components. While replacing the parts, I kind of turned the dizzy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif.

The engin is not at TDC, or the 4 degrees before. What do I need to do so I can reinstall the dizzy and start the engine?

Approximately how many degrees off is it?

If it is close you can adjust static, and then with a timing light. If it alot, you may need to re-align it.

If the engine hasn't been moved and the cam gear hasn't been moved, it would still be able to go in 2 ways. It should be able to be installed in time, or 180 degrees out of time.

Either way, no big deal.

Two ways? That darn slot is off center, how's that?

ok, well on the Triumph 1500 motor such as mine, the slot is not off centered, which would allow for the dizzy to be installed either on time or 180 out of time.

Mmmmm.
1500 Triumph engine is offset too.
Mine actually has a 1275 Sprite distributor.

John,

I made the mistake of thinking the 1500 distributor would fit in two ways. While it is possible to fit the distributor both ways, if you put the distributor in backwards it will pop out at the most inoppertune moment. Believe me!

Update: The dizzy is back in but the engine will not fire. I am charging the battery right now in hopes that is the problem. I still need to change out the wires and coil (I think both are at least 15 yrs old if not the original).

Well tommorow we will see if see fires up.

When you crank the engine over, does the tach needle move? If not, the low tension wire is likely touching the post and grounding instead of only touching the spring and being insulated from ground. Peter
