That's called "lumping" and that's a subject that could start a very lively debate. There are obviously different schools of thought about the process. Many believe its the right thing to do because of reliability issies and parts availability, expense of repairs, etc. I happen to agree with you, the XK engine, which was designed way back in the 40's, is one of the most beautiful pieces of engineering ever created by man in my opinion. Although I have seen a few EType lumps, most lumps I have seen are not Etypes, but rather the XJ sedans. Its not something I would ever do, but I supposed if a person owns a car it is their property to do with as they please. If they were to ask my advice however, I would strongly urge against it.
