The Crypt Car has only been driven 67 miles.
Mostly to the Western Auto repair shop 2 miles
from home. So I really have very little personal
knowledge of the drive trane.
I did notice the clutch felt "sticky" to me. Maybe a
third of the pedal off the floor before a sudden drab.
I drive a stick shift every day as my regular car so
I know it's not "operator error."
Some posts here in the past led me to believe it is
the throw out bearing and an entire new clutch assembly
is therefore needed.
I was gutting the interior today to get the car ready
for this major project. I have a mechanic lined up, a
few days rental of a repair bay scheduled and was going
to order everything from TRF this afternoon including new
carpet, etc.
But under the dry rot black carpet I found the transmission
covered with a new looking, black, hard plastic covering
with very bright, new looking hex head bolts. Beneath the
hand brake arm was mostly saw dust with the powdered remains
of some ancient covering.
I have already replace the slace cylinder and all that
external stuff. Still sticky clutch.
Any thoughts on this sticky clutch issue before I order
a whole new assembly and rip the Crypt car apart even more.
Could the shiny black plastic transmission cover represnt
a recent clutch replacement?
thanks as always,
dale
