1 more question,

I had the charging system checked on the way home, or at least the voltage across the battery
car off = 12v 365 cranking amps
car on = 17.5 volts

I have a spare voltage regulator, how do I check to make sure the one on the car or the spare is good.

Or is this something else. And does this have anything to do with idle like in newer cars??

What are you running an altinator. Even then that seems high. You know the regulators for generators are adjustable. Take the top off and look see.

Jack I am running a stock generator. The voltage regulartor is the 2x4 inch box on the passenger side firewall. How are they adjustable. Iam heading out in a fewminutes to change out regulators to the spare one I have.

That prob will work as well. Got to look in the shop manual for adjustment info. Is a bit complex.

Ahh, cut out is 12.7 to 13.3 volts.

Page 178, Haynes.

Lot of info on charging circut adjustments depending upon temp, etc. Too much for here.

OK I change the regulator, at idle it is just under 12.7, maybe 12.5 or 6 but add some throttle and she goes up. When everything is off the battery is 12 or 12.1. Seem the regulator was suspect, While I was at it I readjusted the carbs ever so slightly and the idle and the timing,, seems to have improved the searching to. I spray lots of WD40 and no changes from the throttle shafts, the manifold, or the bowls so I guess that is good. Im gonna take her for a spin, and try her out. Ill let you know when I get back.

ok JAck, I took her for a tear, she ran great, no stalling no searching for an idle speed, no little red lights, no weak battery. Smooth as slik. Now I just gotta fix the gas guage, the brake line, the rear seals, the radio, the turn signals, the back up lights, put on the luggage rack, etc etc etc. I'll post a pic this weekend. The paint job makes her look GREAT. If I get the right angle and light maybe as good as Trevors, from the outside anyway......

Thanks Woodie, but my car is a 20/20 car. 20 feet away or 20 mph and she looks good, but she doesn't do well at shows.

Please post some pics.
