Wiring Question

Folks,

Does anyone have any pictures showing where the wiring loom from the control head (trafficator) coming out the end of the stator tube hooks up to the turn signal wires? The idiot who installed the previous control head (me 20 years ago) simply ran the wires up to the driver side horn and then across the front of the engine, tied to the fuel line to the carbs, and then connected them near the passenger side horn. I know this is not correct, and probably unsafe. Did they originally connect in the nose? Your thoughts appreciated.

I believe on a LHD car they connect in that bundle near the grounding clip, just outboard from the horn. Here is the spot I mean:

On most harnesses there are also turn signal wires on the righthand side of the loom (for RHD cars) -- from your description, perhaps you previously connected to those.

Hmm. Thank you Geo. Very pretty red TR with a cleaner engine compartment than I can ever hope for. I'd say I feel like Oedipus but, unlike him, I already know who the culprit was in this case. After looking at the wiring diagram and your pictures let me refine my question. At least one wire from the control head has to get from the end of the stator tube over to the passenger side to hook up with the front and rear lights on that side (my TR is left hand drive). It either goes there directly (I am thinking not) or, it connects to a wire on the driver side that is coming from the passenger side. Where should that wire be located? Hope this clarifies and thank you again.

There are several wires that "cross over" (GN, GR, GW, NB), they all run through the regular wiring harness and come out near the back of the horns (the green arrow in Geo's top photo).

Hope you don't find, as I did, that the DPO had cut them off.

BTW, oddly enough, the wire for the rear RH turn signal (GW) comes out on the LH side of the harness. So the GW "cross over" always gets used.
