Willwood disk brake conversion

Has anyone used Wilwood disk brake calipers? I was looking on Summit and they offer them and Woody offers them as part of a Kit that offers the calipers, the disk, and pads? The 8 sure would benefit from a little (OK allot) more stopping power. It is a pretty expensive upgrade...

Expensive, but well worth it. I put the Rimmer Vitesse calipers and rotors on mine, simply because they were on sale. Made a big difference, and I'm sure the Wilwood's are even better.

Besides, Woody's got a payment due on his condo! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Please, with as much as I pay Woody, he probably owns a few condos... J/K he is a great guy and best friend of all 8 owners...

The Wilwood brake calipers are not a direct bolt on. Our cars use a 3.25" bolt spacing on the caliper mounting bolts. Fords use a 3.5" and Chevy's use a 5.25" spacing. The kit Woody sells have a custom machined aluminum bracket that bolts to our spindles and then the Wilwood calipers designed for the chevy bolt to the bracket. He also uses rotors that are from another car that are redrilled to mate to our hubs. The kit also includes adapter fittings that allow you to bolt our brake lines to the Wilwood calipers. Alot of design work went into making this kit. The components are not cheap to begin with, so I don't think he makes much money off of them. The same type of kit for my BMW 2002 costs even more and it uses alot of the same pieces. I am trying to make up a front kit for my car now. The difference is that I am using Rover SD1 struts and hubs. I wanted a 5X4.5 inch wheel bolt pattern to match up to the Ford 8.8 Posi rear end I am installing. This will allow me to take advantage of a wider selection of after market wheels. The fact that I am using a limited slip rear end with 11 inch solid disc brakes doesn't hurt either.

I know that they look really good on Woody's red TR8.

And as fast as that thing will go, he also needs them to stop it!!

As soon as Woody recommended the kit too me, I knew I had to have a set. I will give him a call once I get my "new" TR7.5 together. Woody is usually by far the cheapest part source and my first choice always. Even if he is a little more allot of time I get it there just for the number of times he helped me with tech advice
