BN1 wire wheel sizes w/disk brake conversion

I have a 100-4 that arrived in the shop today and has me puzzled. The car has the front wheel disk conversion and has 60 spoke wheels that are 5" wide with 165 tyres. The tires are scrubbing the fenders at the peak of the arch of the front fender. It seems one of three things must going on 1) Wheel is too wide or backspace is wrong 2) tyres are too large 3) the disk brake kit has pushed the wheels outward.

What setups have you guys successfully run on a BN1 with the disk brake conversion?

Terry--

On my BN1 I have the BT7 front brake conversion with 60-spoke Daytons and 175-15 Michelins. I have no problems with tire clearance.

Perhaps the front springs have seen better days and/or how wide are the tires?

Tire size is 165HR 15 made by Vredestein. I also see 155HR 15 is a recommened tire size.

I think the springs are tired as the fender lip is about 1/2" lower on the driver's side than the passenger's side (measured from the floor). Even with tired springs, wouldn't you expect the suspension to be able to go through full travel without scrubbing the front fender?

Terry--

Is the sidewall or tread the point of contact?

If the springs and shocks are worn out it is not unreasonable to expect that one or the other could be the problem.

Terry,

Did you have the brakes installed? Were new hubs used? Possible that the set back has changed and pushed the tires out further.

Michael,

Thank you for the reply. The contact is occurring on the sidewall. I think you might be right about the springs, I think they are tired and I found where someone had put the spacers in the spring (the kind you put in with an impact wrench) to try to get some of the spring height back on the driver's side. Shocks seems OK so it looks like we need springs, bushings, some new bump stops and whatever else we find wrong.

Thank you for your help.

The fender lip to the chrome bead varied between the earlier BN1's, and the later BN1 & 2's, I think the earlier guards had less clearance, about 3/4", maybe a guard has been replaced?
