SU HS4 question

I'm putting an HS4 carb on my Midget. It was the rear carb off an MGB. On top of the float, there are two fuel lines. Currently, the higher one points at the engine while the lower one points at the fender. (I presume this is the correct alignment)

Which is fuel in? And should I cap the fuel out as I'm only using one carb?

One (usually the one pointing towards the engine) is the fuel delivery fitting (remove the lid from the float bowl and blow through each port while holding the float up and see which on you can blow through - the one that you can't is the delivery fitting). The other fitting is the vent/overflow fitting, which should have a pipe from it down along side the engine to make sure that any overflow is directed away from the exhaust manifold. It should not be capped off or the fuel will be forced into the carburetor throat, causing flooding.

Yes, if the vent pipe is clogged or capped it won't run.
(you know how I know right?)
The PO of my last MGB had the two vent tubes connected with one unbroken hose.
It would run for a little bit then die with a lot of gas smell. :wink:

(wait - I am now the PO of my last MGB... I guess I meant the PPO of my last MGB :wink:...)
