Stripped Shifter

The shifter knob on my car is missing the MG disk, so at the swap meet this weekend, I bought another. When I go to put it on I also learned why it was on there wonky. The shifter stalk is stripped clean, and the knob is held in place by an allen key.

My question is would it be better to re thread the stalk or get a new one. (Well, not new as Moss seems to be bereft of that part.) And if re-threading, what size and thread die should I get?
