MGB 1977 MGB Battery Box and Shifter knob

Hello,

Working on rehabbing this guy; any idea how to remove the shifter knob.

Also the battery compartment looks like it needs some help for the new battery. Read about plastic battery boxes

There is a collar below the shift knob that acts like a lock nut. If you can loosen it, the know should screw right off.

The battery box is a quick and easy solution for the battery. All the MG parts vendors carry them...

Thanks for the tip. Is there a way to determine if this has overedrive? It's a 1977 MGB vin GHN5UH426707G

The overdrive switch is the top part of the gear shift knob, when fitted. There would be two wires running up the lever to the knob. The overdrive is attached to the back of the gearbox.

The definitive way is to get under and look at the tail end of the transmission. If it resembles, more or less, a tapered extension at the end it's not OD. If it has sort of a large bulbous chuck at the tail end, it's an OD.
