MGB 1977 MGB Brake Master Cylinder Identification

The brake master cylinder that is currently on my "B" has the wedge type reservoir. The Moss catalog says this was only used on 75 and 76 model cars. Is this true? If it is true then apparently mine master has been switched at some point. I also noticed in my rebuild kit that there was a vacuum seal that fit in the front opening of the brake booster. However, the back part of my current master is much to long and will not work with the seal in the kit. Was there a difference in the length of the section that slips into the booster between different types of masters?

If Molly has power assisted brakes, she shouldn't have that reservoir; however, the square reservoir can be used on earlier cars that had the wedge reservoir...so, I'm wondering what's wrong with using wedge on a car that should have square.

If its working, its one of the last things you wanna mess with because new ones aren't available & used ones are like hen's teeth!

Re: MGB Brake Master Cylinder Identification

The problem I'm having with the wedge MC is that some of the parts in the rebuild kit won't work with it. Case in point is the vacuum seal for the Brake booster. Apparently the shank on the square reservoir MC is shorter than the one on the wedge MC. So my vacuum seal won't work.

Tony--my 77 has the same type of MC. The plastic is shaped some what like a Triump. Wedge shape.

According to this pic I found, this is what the vacuum seal for a wedge MC looks like. Sorry, I can't quite seem to figure out how to add a pic.
