Stripped manifold bolts

While I was working under the bonnet a couple of weekends ago, I decided it was time I checked the manifold bolts. I quickly found the last manifold bolt (#4 cylinder exhaust) appears to be stripped. No amount of wrenching would tighten the bolt down.

This might be a moot question, but is there an easy way to repair the bolt hole?

Eh, ream, tap, and helicoil just doesn't sound a lot of fun at the moment...

also about the "no fun" part. How is it you have bolts in there? Those should be studs with nuts to hold the manifolds in place.

DPO, or DPO's Mechanic?

PO's claim the engine had less than 3k miles on a "rebuild" before they put it into storage and I bought it. The rebuild sometimes varies from the full engine to the head. I have the service history stowed away someplace, but I figure I'll just deal with things like this as they pop up.

the first and last erm... it's mostly bolts holding the manifold on. It's been like that ever since I got the car. It seemed sort of odd to me at first, but given I had no other B's to compare mine to at first I though it was normal.

Ya know, ever since I got the car it's had a problem with the carb getting too hot. I've since seemed to reduce the effects of the issue with the mods I've added, but IIRC, the PO stated that ever since they had the head rebuilt it's had the issue. Recounting the bolts holding the manifolds to the head, and the fact that the rear bolt is stripped. I'm beginning to think that the improperly secured manifold is allowing some hot exhaust gases leak out into the engine compartment heating the area around the carb to hotter than normal conditions...


Mind you, if there is a leak, it isn't one that is very big. Though, it's big enough that I can distinguish cylinder #4 from the others when the hood is up.
