sloppy shock arm fix

I am installing the Bilstein tube shock conversion kit from Putzke Fahrspass. This uses the un-valved Armstrong shock as the upper arm just like stock.

One of my shock arms has a little side to side play. Is there a fix for this as I really do not want to buy a new shock

If you are handy with a lathe you can turn the bore oversize and make up some plastic bushings. This is what I have done, along with sleeving the piston bores with stainless steel ground-bore tubing and using modern hydraulic piston seals.

The problem with many reconditioned shocks is they use brass/bronze bushes which aren't really the right thing for the application unless they have oiling grooves machined in them. My shocks had been previously 'reconditioned' with brass Dufor bushes which are really designed for kingpins. They wear rapidly in the shock fulcrum application.

Andy.

the arm is moving fore and aft. Will dismantle it and see what can be done but was hoping for a easy fix.
Nothing seems easy

There are thrust washers inside the shock body that should take up that slack, as well as the soft center collar which is dented into the shaft groove to help hold things. Yes, Delrin/plastic is the preferred bushing material.

the easy fix is new shocks from World Wide without the hydraulic guts as this is now just an A-arm
50.00 ea and Peter went out of his way to ship next day - happy customer
