Fuel Filter Sizes? Which is best

Just recently purchased a TR6 and am in the middle of doing a basic service - oil and filter change, air/fuel filter etc.

I want to replace the fuel filter but don't know what size to go for as most stores stock two sizes that i have been on.

Should i go for this small universal in-line fuel filter or go for the large filter?

Is there any advantage or disadvantages of either of the filters? They are both paper filters and have been told by a friend they both use the same paper, just different size housing.

Basically, does it make much difference which one i go with? I know its only a couple of quid but the money is not the point, i want the best for my little baby...lol.

I'd say that if you have the room for the large one get that, as the price difference in neglible. The larger one will hold more dirt and should last longer and the flow through the filter should be higher. Just watch which way you put it in. Most filters have an arrow for flow direction.

Welcome to the forum. I agree with Art. The larger filter will be less prone to clogging because of the larger filter area and also allow a greater fuel flow rate. Even if your car doesn't require a high fuel flow rate, the excess capacity of the filter means longer intervals between changes.

Put the larger one in. The little one is terrible about restriction with just minute amounts of debris. Also, stay away from the plasic clear ones, and put the steel housing one in... I've seen the plasitc split/leak/ fire... can you say "FA-WHOOSH!"? I knew you could! But, it does keep the adrenal glands well oiled!

I'm really shocked at how friendly and helpful you guys are.

So looks like im better going with the larger filter then. I know sherman has said the plastic ones can break and leak but i have already ordered the large one from the link above.

For the price, you cant really grumble. Thanks for all the help.

These old buggies generate a lot of rust
in the fuel tank and fuel lines.

I modified a 1957 Chevy filter with a strong
magnet to help filter out the rust and other crud.

It works fine for me.
