Fuel Filter, anyone got a part # for this thing?

I pulled the back panel to start on my fuel level sender and noticed this... HOLY DIRTY FUEL FILTER BATMAN! Its about 60% filled with sediment, and I just drove it! I guess when I drain my tank I'll be cleaning the inside! YIKES!

I'm pretty sure this isn't stock, so anyone got a clue what brand this is? If you got a part number, that would be greatly appreciated!

Dunno the part number, but they're common as dirt. Carry it into any auto parts store and say "I need one of these"; even the droids know what they are.

Roger that. It just looked a little big to be one of those generic ones... but its been a long time since I've used a generic item. Thanks again Randall.

Pete - is there fresh gas in the tank? Is this filter just not been changed in awhile or did it get like that quickly?

Short answer, Yes its fresh Gas, Yes the filter is old.

I purchased the car a year ago, and have not been able to actually get to much with it till now, as I've been war-deployed off and on (mostly on) for the past 2.5 years. I'm gonna go ahead and pick up 2 filters. Swap it, run it for a while, and if the gas is showing any sediment near the bottom at all I'll pull the tank, clean it, then install a new filter again.

In clear plastic with a metal base that looks like an old Fram G2 filter. For dozens of plastic equivalents see: Inline Filters' page for FFR-G12P. An aluminum cased equivalent (which would look more correct) would be a Lucas F6M, an AC GF61, or Purolator F20011. For literally several hundred other equivalents see: Inline Filters' page for FFR-G12M.

wouldn't it make more sence to put the filter under the bonnet where it can be monitored & where it belongs?

I was thinking the same. This is a Fram G1 on the GT6

Re: Fuel Filter, anyone got a part # for this thin

To answer your original post, the Triumph part number for that filter is 152961. As others have said, the original filter would have been an aluminum can, not clear plastic, so that one has been replaced at some point.

I use two filters, one at the tank and one between the fuel pump and the carb.

Just as an aside, if your filter is that dirty, there is probably some amount of junk getting through it. Sometime soon I would think about pulling the carb bowl off and checking for sediment there also.

I'd replace it and just check the tank for sediment. Looks like it was just doing its job and in that location prob doesn't get insp/changed out often enough.
I can look down into my tank (with a military eod non sparking flashlight) and see how everything looks. If you don't have a safe light use a reflecitve mirror to angle light in.
Maybe just drive it til about empty and drain remaining fuel, prob ok if you've been driving regularly.
