TR2/3/3A Will HS6 fit in TR3?

OK, to keep from hijacking the "polishing carbs" thread, I'm picking up this here. I showed a picture of my filters polished and it was noted that the HS6 and Longer intake may not fit inside the TR3. Maybe I'm missing something, but the stock intake is the same amount wider, as the carbs are slimmer. The stock filters are 2" tall, but curved while the ones I have are about 1.5" and flat. All in all, from head mounting to top of filter is barely under 12" for both set-ups. Am I missing something? If it's not going to fit, I think it's going to be very close. I don't know exactly what my intake came off, of. Maybe it's not a TR4? Please look at these pictures and tell my heart it can start beating again.

I simply don't know, haven't tried it yet. But if you look at the first photo above, and mentally draw a vertical line along the bottom of the intake manifold runners; I think you will see that it hits the bottom of the new filters, while completely missing the bottom of the old filters. The inner fender is not vertical at that point, and the longer carbs & shorter manifold combine to move the filters higher, giving more clearance to the inner fender.

Looks like a late TR4 manifold to me. 4A used the same casting, but had a hole drilled & tapped for the PCV line.

I can check pretty easily, the car I just got has the manifold off and I can test fit the HS6's I stashed away. But I think the answer is yes, they do. In fact, I swear I've seen a long manifold/H6 setup fit too, but that may have been with air horns to get clearance.

Wow, it took more time to type this than it did to check. They fit:

I read the other thread and realized I was a little lazy on my fitting - so I put the manifold on fully this time to check - with the thinner Kinby filters, there is plenty of clearance I think:

Yup, looks good. Might touch under extreme conditions (that opening left-hander on the autox course), but probably not.

What are you going to do with the "PCV" nipples?

And there was much rejoycing.

Randy, you rock.
I'd like to know where I can get a plug that fits into the intake, where you've got that hose nipple. -Or where I can get a nipple like that. I simply have a threaded hole, but it seems to be some weird thread. My plan was to simply plug it up, along with the center hole of the filters.

I also see that Randy already has the center-pull linkage worked out. I was surprised to find the TR6 bell-crank/bracket will work (with slight modification) because the spacing between the carbs on the 6 is the same as the spacing on the 4. Odd?

I think Randy and I will have very comparable carboration.

If you are talking about my carbs - mine look like that because I didn't do them!

Bought them from Andrew Turner a couple of years ago when I worked in the UK, I think he's the UK equivalent of Joe Curto or Jeff Palya, he does very nice work.

I was intending to hook these up to my TR4 at some point, and run with the 4A PCV setup. Haven't gotten around to it, my ZS carbs are working just fine at the moment, and I've read mixed opinions on the 4A PCV anyway.

You might be thinking of this photo I posted in another thread. It's H6 carbs on a long runner intake manifold in a TR3; my old racecar. I think filters would hit the fender well, but with velocity stacks, the set-up just fits.

You have a good memory, Randy.

That's plenty of room if your motot mounts are newer. I've found there is only an issue when the front mounts lose their stiffness and wobble like jello, then it's a problem with and filter.

This set-up will make good power, the tr4a manifold is a plus. I would suggest that at this point you do a little port matching since it is likely this manifold was made several thousand units after your head was.....#3 is the usual bad boy and is often off 70 to 90 thousandths. You can use the stock air cleaners if you put on the John Deere foam sleeves. Then everybody at the show will freak at your engine bay!!
