Took the 850 for a spin

Pretty much finished getting the 73 Fiat 850 Spider roadworthy. What a dog. I can't get out of my own way. Maybe I'll put a Chevy big block in the rear or put it on EBAY.

Send it to me...

...it'll fit in a priority mail packing box right?

Kenny... It'll just about fit /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My friend loves his 850 Spider and is totally thrilled with it! It's lower speed driving obviously (a much smaller engine than typical) but I've been told that they are still fun sports cars to drive.

Sherlock: I'm guessin' your friend hasn't driven it in Orlando traffic.

Rick, hang the li'l suckah from davits off the back of your "real" car. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Rick, do you remember my comment awhile back about racing against them with a 948 Sprite? It was always nice to know that there were slower cars than me out there.
Now you know.
My 850, on the other hand, is pretty quick, with the 1300 Abarth engine in it.

Probably need to tune it better (new plugs, wires, etc) but don't have time. I do remember the Bugeye thread and would like to see a pic. of the 1300.

Regardless of the performance, the 850 is a nice design - very attractive in both coupe and convertible.

Back in '70 or '71, when I was in New Orleans, there was an Abarth coupe that terrorized the autocross scene. Revved so high that it sounded like a chainsaw when he went through the course.

Over on the Classic Motorsports BBS there's a thread on 850's - putting Abarth engines in them, racing them, restoring them..
