Speedometer cable, well I purchased the cable that Moss sells for tr3 non-OD and was surprised at the price 15.00; I hope that it will work out. I was kinda torn because the Speedo shop in the area said just bring in your old one and we can make you a new one for 35.00 bucks. I guess they just reuse the ends or maybe they are kinda standard. I do not know. Has anyone bought the one from Moss?

To be like they were originally, get a gray one for originality. The Moss supplier here in Montreal had one in stock but it was black. I didn't want it. So I ordered mine (grey) from Roadster Factory. I had to work on both ends of it to get it to work but for the first time in 18 years, this one is now steady as a rock.

Thanks Don that is encouraging. I let my ocd loose on this bouncing speedometer and hope that the cable will fix it. I have a couple of those old gray cables and I thought they were after market, but I do remember GEO saying something awhile back that the originals were not black. . However, they did not fix the bouncing problem; there must be play in them. Anyways, I am going to try the new cable and see what happens. I tried a different head but it acted a little bouncy and did the same extra movement at 35 to 45. I figured that is where they run at most often so perhaps the cable is weird there, maybe the head; I do not know. I kinda oscillate between Moss and TRF because they both get me once and awhile, but if I would have been thinking I would went with the gray. What do you mean work on the ends?

The local speedo shop I have used just replaced the inner cable -- making it to fit the original grey/off white housing. Pretty simple job for them.

Some of the replacement cables are a tad too long (the inner cable long relative to the housing length) and this applies some pressure to the drive head in the speedo when everything is buttoned up. Perhaps this is what Don had to address. Speedo end of cable can be filed down or possibly a washer added over the end as a little spacer.

I noticed the local FLAPS now sells a replacement cable kit in the 'HELP' section. It's supposedly universal and it is certainly cheap. As I recall it came with a crude little tool for squaring the end after cutting to length. I recall the speedo shop used a hammer for this step so perhaps it is not precision work. Next time I need a cable I may try the kit.
