100 speedometer cable routing

Thank you for the transmission oil answers, went with non-detergent 30 weight..

My car is almost done will put pics on when on the road.

I am insulating the transmission cover and installing the speedo cable..

Am I corect that the cable goes OUTSIDE the bulkhead and then through the tunnel rather than under the dash to the tranny. If through the bulkhead, which hole is the proper one.
Thank you for you response.

Both the speedometer & the tachometer cables exit behind the dash & down through the space between the inner bulkhead & the extension panel. Not through the firewall or whatever you choose to call it.

The vertical top of the extension panel flange is slightly relieved in an area wide enough for the two cables to pass through side by side. There is also a rubber seal along the top of the extension panel. The slight "dent" in the panel flange plus the rubber compression allow the cables to pass tightly through the gap. I also deepened the "dent" by removing a portion of the vertical flange to keep it from squeezing the cables so tightly. The tach cable then curves forward to the tach drive & the speedo cable passes back across the top of the transmission to the speedo drive.

Attached is a pic showing the LH upper flange of the extension panel (above the carpet) with the two cables passing through.

I was interested to note on Dave's photo that there is bare paint on the inside of the bulkhead. All 100s I have inspected (and that's most down-under cars)are like Dave's. The only bit of original Armacord insulation left on my 100 was a carefully shaped piece with neat holes, etc for the various cables glued to the inside of the bulkhead. The rest of the Armacord had been replaced with a similar material but with a different pattern on the surface. Are there any other 100s like this? Or does my car have one unique feature?

Dave Russell, if by extension panel you mean the 15"x15" approx panel that encloses over the gearbox vertically, then mine has no obvious indent for cabling

BN1 & BN2 had different extension panel arrangements. On the BN1, the tach & speedo cables plus the wiring from the OD relays, which were mounted inside the cockpit, exited through the extension panel top joint.

BN2's had the OD relays on the outside so this wiring did not follow the speedo cable path. You can see some BN1 pics here. It appears that there was no particular notch in the upper extension panel flange & the three cables were just pinched in the upper weather strip.

On my BN2, there was an indent for the two cables in the upper extension panel flange. I don't really know if it was original. Since I didn't like the cables being "smashed" I made the indent even deeper.

Another difference is that the BN2 extension panel sides wrapped around the extension while the BN1 panel just went flush with the sides.

Attached is a pic of the engine side of the BN2 panel showing the wrap around sides, the carpet completely wrapped around the panel sides for a seal, & the deepened cable notch at the top.
